    What is LifeVest?

LifeVest is a wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) that has been worn by more than one million patients at risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD).1

While some defibrillator devices are implanted, LifeVest is worn directly against your skin, under regular clothing. Most patients wear LifeVest until their condition improves or their doctor makes a decision about long-term care.

    • When worn as directed, LifeVest can provide a constant safeguard against SCD.

Why have I been prescribed LifeVest?

Your doctor believes that your current condition puts you at risk for developing certain life-threatening rapid heart rhythms (known as ventricular tachycardia (VT or “V-tach”) or ventricular fibrillation (VF or “V-fib”)), which could cause you to become unconscious and unable to call for help. Without treatment, this could lead to sudden cardiac death within minutes.

The most effective treatment to stop or correct these heart rhythms is defibrillation, which is an electrical shock to the heart. LifeVest is highly effective at treating these dangerous rhythms and is proven to improve survival:

    • In a study of 2,000 patients, 96% of patients were alive one year after they began using LifeVest.2
    • On average, LifeVest saves about three patients every day.3

“Because I had a LifeVest, I knew that if something happened, it could take care of me.”

    Frequently asked questions

Why do I need the LifeVest WCD?

Your doctor believes that your current condition puts you at risk for developing certain life-threatening rapid heart rhythms, which can occur at any time and without warning. This could cause you to become unconscious and unable to call for help. Your doctor prescribed LifeVest for protection from sudden cardiac death so that you can continue to be there for your family. The risk of SCD is high for certain heart patients. You may be at a higher risk for SCD if you have or experience one of the following:

    • A low ejection fraction (EF) or weak heart muscle
    • Prior heart attack
    • Heart failure
    • A history of sudden cardiac death in your family
    • A viral infection in your heart
    • Other risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, smoking, and high cholesterol

No matter your condition, it is important to remember that the LifeVest WCD can provide a constant safeguard against SCD. With LifeVest, you and your loved ones can have peace of mind knowing that you can have protection.7

When can I take off the LifeVest WCD?

It is critical that you wear LifeVest at all times – even while you sleep. The only time you should remove your LifeVest WCD is while taking a short shower or bath. This should only be done when someone is home with you, if possible.

Is the LifeVest WCD covered by insurance?

LifeVest is covered by most health plans in the United States, including commercial, state, and federal plans. You should contact your medical insurance provider with any questions about your specific coverage. LifeVest patient support is also available to answer your questions. Call ZOLL at 1-800-543-3267 for assistance.
